I got the
error message " Fail to adjust to an adequate color balance" when trying to
scan.
|

Would you please follow these
suggestions as below to check.
1. Checking the scanner is Unlock properly.
2. Checking if the parallel port mode in BIOS was set to EPP
mode. (According to AM12E spec. is designed in EPP mode,
when you set the parallel port mode, you will get the good
compatibility and performance. A wrong setting, such as ECP
or SPP, will cause the scanner work abnormal.
3. The warm up time is not enough especially in the cold
environment. Waiting for a while to try again.
4. The defected hardware might cause the same problem.
Please contact the dealer for further service.

Why is the scanning speed so
slow?
|
|
Our parallel port scanners are
designed to support both SPP (Standard Parallel Port) and
EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port) modes, but they perform the
best under EPP mode. If your computer's parallel port mode
is setup to be normal or SPP mode, it would take several
minutes to calibrate the scanner and the scanning speed
would be very slow too. In this case we recommend setting
the parallel port mode to EPP 1.7, EPP, or SPP+EPP (the
options vary on different computers) to obtain the best
performance of the scanner. However, if the parallel port
mode is already set to EPP, the calibration and pre-scan
processes seems speedy enough, but it still takes a long
time to scan the image, then it's due to the scan settings
you have selected. In this case, please lower down the scan
resolution and/or select a smaller area to scan to reduce
the image size created by the scanner, and therefore speed
up the scanning.

How to
change my computer's parallel port setting to EPP mode?
|
|
In general, you can change the
parallel port setting within your computer's BIOS setup
program.
1. Press Delete
key (or other key combination stated on screen) immediately
after turning on your computer to enter the BIOS setup
program.
2. Go to "Integrated Peripherals" or similar section.
3. Check the entry of "Onboard Parallel Mode" or "Printer
Port Mode" setting, change it to "EPP 1.7", "EPP" or "SPP+EPP"
if necessary.
4. Select "Save Settings and Exit" to quit BIOS setup
program, the system will automatically reboot.
* Note: The procedures described here serves as a general
guide line to achieve the best performance of parallel port
scanners, Ultima International shall not be held liable for
any direct, indirect and consequential damages caused by use
of this material. Improperly modify your computer's BIOS
settings may cause the system fail to boot up. Please refer
to your computer's user manual or consult your computer
manufacturer for more precise instructions of changing
parallel port setting.

My printer was working properly, but it appears
"off-line" all the time after connecting to the scanner,
why?
|
|
All ARTEC parallel port scanners
featured a pass-through printer port for you to connect a
printer on it. In order to enable pass-through printing
mode, first of all please make sure that the scanner is
powered on when printing, also please make sure the parallel
port is set to EPP or SPP+EPP mode. Secondly, in some
abnormal circumstances (system crash, abnormal program
termination, etc.), there might be "leftover" data stocked
in the pass-through buffer to block the communications
between the computer and the printer. In this case you can
just turn off the scanner and then turn it back on to clear
the buffer. The printer should work properly thereafter.
If you have tried all the above to no avail, you may have to
remove both the printer driver and the scanner driver from
your computer. While keeping both devices connected and
powered on, first run the setup program to install the
scanner driver again, then use "Add Printer" function to
install your printer's driver. This should allow the
computer to properly recognize the printer through the
scanner.

Why there is no printed user's manual in my package?
|
|
We have put user's manuals for
the scanner and bundled software on the CD-ROM title "ARTEC
CD".

Why can’t I find the manual attached with scanner?
|
|
Most PC suppliers have replaced
printed manual with electronic files. Please find the
attached CD for manual.

There is no power switch on my ViewStation AS6E (6P,
AM12E), how can I turn it off while not using it?
|
|
The AS6E, 6P and AM12E family
are designed without power switches and intended to be left
powered on all the time as same as your answering machine or
other low energy consumption devices. This design is to
ensure a seamless pass-through printing process and cut down
the scanner's warm-up time. In the rare cases that you need
to temporarily turn off and on the scanner, you can just
remove the power adapter from the back of scanner then plug
it back in.

I just
purchased an AS6E (6P, AM12E), what is the green button on the scanner's
front panel for?
|
|
That is the one-touch scan
button. However, you need to start the scanner's user
interface, go to "Preferences" tag, and check on "Enable
auto scanning" to enable it. You can also program the button
with preferred functions there. For example, under "Auto
scanning setting", if you check on "Prescan", "Image area
auto detection" and "Scan and send to destination" options,
then with the scanner's user interface running, you can
perform the above three tasks by a single press of the
one-touch scan button. With proper soft/hardware installed,
you can utilize this one-touch scan button to turn the
scanner into a copier or fax machine.

How to
send the image as an email or a fax directly from the ViewStation AS6E (6P,
AM12E) user interface?
|
|
In order for you to utilize the
direct emailing or faxing function, you need to setup a MAPI
(Messaging Application Programming Interface) compliant
email client program and a proper Faxing program on your
computer. Microsoft shipped Microsoft Exchange with Windows
95 (Outlook Express and Windows Messaging with Windows 98)
to provide MAPI compliant emailing and desktop faxing
service. There are also a lot of 3rd party email or fax
programs that support MAPI available in the market. Please
check with your system vendor or Microsoft to get basic
information on how to setup MAPI and Microsoft Exchange.
Once you setup the proper emailing or faxing program on your
system, you can select the scanning destination to Email or
Fax under the scanners' user interface program. Then after
scanning, the scanners' UI will automatically bring up the
proper software to handle the image.

The lamp on my ViewStation AM12E (AM3E, AT3E) is always
on, is that normal?
|
|
Yes. The lamps in these CCD
optical module scanners are designed to be on whenever the
main power is on. This design is for reducing scanner
warm-up time and ensuring consistent scanning quality, and
the lamp is built to be long lasting and energy saving, so
you can leave the scanners on in that way. Starting from
driver version 1.31 for AM12E, we have included an optional
software control function - "Power Saving" - in the
scanner's user interface (not available for AM3E and AT3E).
You can go to "Preferences" page of the scanner's driver to
enable this function to turn off lamp when closing the
scanner driver. However, please notice that enable this
function would increase the scanner's warm-up time when the
scanner source is called up the first time. Click here to
download the latest scanner driver(s).

Why does my flatbed scanner makes a knocking sound and
fails to work after power turning on?
|
|
This is caused by user forget to
unlock the scanner or failed to unlock the scanner properly.
If you don't unlock it, the drive will prevent the optical
module from moving and thus resulting in the noise you hear.
Please refer to the scanner's user manual to unlock the
scanner.
